Position Overview & Specifications

QHSE Assistant.

Assisting the Operations Director with the maintenance and management of the company’s quality, health and safety and environmental systems.

Please note that because of the defence related nature of our business you will be required to undergo security clearance vetting and will need to meet special nationality rules. Therefore this vacancy is only open to British Citizens.

The role.

Regularly reviewing procedures and policies and carrying out internal audits, preparing reports and implementing any agreed changes and improvements.

Developing own knowledge and tracking updates and changes to ensure company compliance with all aspects of applicable quality, health and safety and environmental legislation and standards, implementing agreed improvements as necessary.

Helping to develop a Health and Safety system compliant to the ISO45001 standard.

Helping to develop an Environmental Management System compliant to the ISO 14001 standard.

Monitoring company waste and environmental impact and implementing strategies to minimise these.

Supporting commercial and project delivery teams by:

  • Writing high quality documents in response to requests for information arising from tenders and contracts to demonstrate compliance.
  • Producing contract / tender specific quality, health and safety and environmental management plans as necessary.

Helping the company achieve compliance with any new standards of operation that it commits to.

Potentially supporting commercial and engineering teams by:

  • Advising on product safety management, including identification of legislative and regulatory requirements, safety reviews (as non-technical lead), maintenance of hazard logs and safety cases.

Preparing and maintaining risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).

Managing the inspection, maintenance and repair of machinery, tools, ladders and lifting equipment, ensuring PUWR compliance.

Ensuring COSH compliance.

Assisting with fire drills and tests and the management and maintenance of all related equipment.

Promoting a continual improvement mindset and helping to improve standards and working practices throughout the business. As part of our continual improvement strategy, you will need to:

  • Identify weaknesses in existing systems and processes and develop improved solutions.
  • Prioritise areas for improvement which will have the greatest impact on the business.
  • Take initiative, be creative and develop new ideas to help move the business forward.

Monitoring and auditing staff observation of rules, compliance with procedures and implementing colleague training and development as necessary.

Assisting with the expansion of 5S throughout the factory.

Reviewing and updating induction procedures, carrying out visitor inductions and ensure others carry these out properly.

Carrying out health and safety and quality inductions for new starters and refresher training for colleagues.

Representing the business and attending meetings with customers as required.

Advising the Board and providing reports as required.

And any other similar tasks as required.

Your profile.

You must be NEBOSH qualified or with significant experience in QHSE or related area.

Excellent communicator, proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. You must have excellent organisational skills with the ability to write reports to the highest standard and be able to self-manage and prioritise your work.

A self-starter who is practical and hands-on and able to manage multiple activities simultaneously with minimal supervision.

Whippendell Marine can trace its history back over 120 years and since 1935 we have been supplying the Royal Navy and others with specialist electrical equipment into harsh environments such as ships and submarines. We manufacture a wide and diverse range of products and are a small and friendly team.
