Apprentice Quantity Surveyor

VolkerHighways are looking to hire an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor, to join the Commercial Team to help support with commercial duties.

The successful candidate will undertake a level 3 surveying technician apprenticeship alongside their daily tasks. The course will be completed over a 2-year period and time will be given during a normal working week to complete coursework.

Key accountabilities

• Assist the procurement process to maximise profit and help ensure subcontract orders are placed on time and in accordance with the Company Policy
• Assist in the preparation of sub-contract documentation
• Produce sub-contract payment for approval on the basis that the work has been carried out in accordance with the contract and to the correct quality.
• Prepare comprehensive sub-contract comparisons
• Assist in the production of Main Contract Valuations.
• Assist in the production of Cash Flow Forecasts.
• Assist the Project Manager in ensuring that the project complies with the company HSEQ policy.
• Being aware of and report any potential business development opportunities.
• Support the site team in their general commercial awareness.

Skills & experience

• Five GCSEs Grades A* to C or 9 to 4 under the new grading system including Maths and English or a Level 2 apprenticeship in a construction or property related discipline, or equivalent.
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to prioritise workload and consistently meet deadlines
