Position Overview & Specifications

The University of St Andrews is seeking to enhance its strengths in Film Studies by appointing a new Lecturer (grade 7). The post will join the Department of Film Studies, which forms part of the School of Philosophical, Anthropological and Film Studies. The successful candidate will contribute to our research environment through their research and its impact beyond academia, will deliver teaching across our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and will supervise research students.

The Department’s research is informed by a collective interest in, and a range of methodological approaches to, global screen cultures, identities, practices, and uses. For this post, we invite applications from researchers whose specialisations can enhance the scope of our engagement across film and media. We would especially welcome applicants to consider interdisciplinarity and the ways in which they can further develop our productive links with other subjects at St Andrews, and other cultural institutions both in Scotland and internationally.

The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in a relevant subject at the time of appointment. They will be a scholar with a strong, developing research profile and a commitment to delivering high quality teaching within film studies. The successful candidate will be expected to have a range of scholarly interests, to be active in research publications that strengthen or complement those in the department, to be active and/or developing public dissemination of their research and to be capable of teaching the subject to undergraduate and taught postgraduate students from a wide range of backgrounds.

For informal enquiries, we encourage those considering applying to contact the Head of Department, Dr Lucy Fife Donaldson (lfd2@st-andrews.ac.uk) or the Head of the School of Philosophical, Anthropological and Film Studies, Professor James Harris (philhos@st-andrews.ac.uk).

We are fully committed to equality and diversity in our recruitment and employment policies. We operate family-friendly hours for core meetings and are happy to discuss flexible working arrangements for staff. We also offer reasonable childcare costs for applicants invited to interview

Applications are particularly welcome from people from the Black, Asian, Minority or Ethnic (BAME) community and other protected characteristics who are underrepresented in School posts at the University.

The University of St Andrews is committed to equality for all, demonstrated though our working on diversity awards (ECU Athena SWAN/Race Charters; Carer Positive; LGBT Charter and Stonewall). More details can be found at https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/diversityawards/.
