Position Overview & Specifications

The Bodleian Libraries is looking to hire a Strategic Communications Officer to support the implementation of the Bodleian’s 5-year Strategy.
You will play an essential role in telling the story of transformation and change that the Bodleian Libraries is undergoing as we seek to remain at the forefront of the libraries sector globally. This will involve planning events, maintaining a visual identity for the Bodleian Libraries Strategy, and drafting a range of written material including social media, blog posts, web pages, and presentations. You will also maintain a web presence for the Strategy on the Bodleian Libraries website, Intranet, and across Teams channels.
As part of the new Office for Strategy and Delivery, you will work closely with the Bodleian Libraries Communications team to embed changes into business-as-usual communications activities and with the Assessment team to evaluate the success of communications campaigns and measure the reach of the Strategy. You will have extensive communications experience in print, digital, and social media, and proven experience in producing effective web content.
Your excellent writing skills and attention to detail will help you to communicate complex concepts to non-specialist audiences. Your interpersonal skills and ability to work independently means you can take initiative and prioritise effectively to meet deadlines, assimilating complex information quickly, inspiring confidence from leadership, and working across multiple teams in a large organisation.
This is a part-time, fixed-term position, working 18.75 hours per week for four years. Exact working hours can be agreed upon offer of the post. Flexible working arrangements could be considered for the right candidate.
University employees enjoy 38 days’ paid holiday, generous pension schemes, travel discounts, and a variety of professional development opportunities. Our range of other employee benefits and discounts also includes free entry to the Botanic Gardens and University colleges, discounts at University museums and the University Sports Club, and free membership of the University Club.
Our staff and students come from all over the world, and we proudly promote a friendly and inclusive culture. Diversity is positively encouraged, through diverse groups and champions, as well as a number of family-friendly policies, such as the right to apply for flexible working and support for staff returning from periods of extended absence, for example shared parental leave and access to five University nurseries. We are also committed to supporting members of staff with disabilities or long-term health conditions.
You will be required to upload your CV and a supporting statement as part of your online application. Your supporting statement should list each of the essential and desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description, and explain how you meet each one.
Only applications received online by 12.00 midday (BST/GMT) on Friday 16 June 2023 can be considered. Interviews are expected to take place during the week commencing Monday 3 July 2023.
