Position Overview & Specifications

This role is a Research Associate role on the project led by Edith Elkind within the Turing Institute’s “Game theory and collective decision making” pillar. The primary goal of the project is to contribute to the research agenda on multiwinner voting and participatory budgeting, with a focus on fairness, robustness and decision-making over time. The Research Associate will be based at Oxford, and will work directly with Prof Elkind and members of her group.
In this role you will develop new models and algorithms for multiwinner voting, participatory budgeting, and other collective decision-making scenarios. You will do original research in computational social choice (on your own, with other group members, and with external collaborators), contribute to writing papers and supervising PhD students, give conference talks, and participate in brainstorming meetings for new research ideas. you will have opportunities to teach.
The ideal candidate will have a doctorate in Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics or a related discipline (or is close to completion of a PhD); experience of doing research in algorithmic game theory/computational social choice, and excellent writing and communication skills. Preference will be given to candidates with a track record of publications in top algorithmic game theory/AI venues.
Whilst the role is a Grade 7 position, we would be willing to consider candidates with potential but less experience who are seeking a development opportunity, for which an initial appointment would be at Grade 6 (Grade 6: £30,502 - £36,386 p.a.) with a title of Research Assistant with the responsibilities adjusted accordingly. This would be discussed with applicants at interview/appointment where appropriate.
The closing date for applications is 12 noon on 12 April 2023. Interviews are expected to be held in April.
