Position Overview & Specifications

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Legal Research Librarian with responsibility for the foreign, comparative and international law collections and resources maintained by the Squire Law Library at the University of Cambridge. Together with the Faculty of Law, the Squire is situated in the David Williams Building on the University's Sidgwick Site. It is one of the largest libraries in the University and one of the leading academic law collections in the UK. This is a specialist role that, together with the Squire Law Librarian, another Legal Research Librarian and the rest of the Squire's dedicated team is responsible for helping to underpin the teaching and research activities of Cambridge's Faculty of Law.

The successful candidate will help with enquiries and provide specialist research to students, researchers and academic staff concerning library resources in the areas of foreign, comparative law and public international law. They will work closely with researchers in the Faculty to ensure that the collections and resources are relevant to research and teaching. The role holder will also provide tailored research sessions to students and researchers, oversee the management and development of the international collections, develop content for the Squire website (using LibGuides) and contribute to the general operation of the library.

The successful candidate should have experience of supporting students, researchers and academic staff in law or a related humanities and social science subject. They should also have experience of developing collections and resources (in print, electronic and web-based formats). They should be able to demonstrate experience in initiating and building relationships, and have an adaptable and flexible approach to delivering services. Candidates should have excellent written and oral communication skills, experience of providing excellent customer services and good organisational and project management skills. They should have a familiarity with a language other than English. A degree level qualification/Level 6 vocational qualification/equivalent experience is essential.

The working pattern is Monday to Friday, between 8.30am and 5:00pm throughout the year. Some Saturday morning cover is also expected on a rota basis with other members of the team.
