The role holder shall assist the NACWO in caring for the animals by performing general husbandry tasks and assist researchers with procedural requirements. The role holder shall be expected to maintain accurate records, complete daily observations and health monitoring, alongside general hygiene and cleaning tasks. This will include working within multiple aquatics facilities, determined by the level of support required for both husbandry and procedures.

Ideally, the successful candidate will hold a Home Office Personal License, or have completed Home Office licensee training (modules A ¿ B) in order to apply for a license, however this is not essential and training can be provided. Previous experience performing regulated procedures and working within a CL2 or quarantine area is also desirable but not essential.

You should have good communication and interpersonal skills, able to work as part of a team, interacting with team colleagues and research staff at all levels. Demonstrable knowledge of relevant Home Office legislation and concepts of animal technician work are also desirable.

Where an applicant does not yet have experience working in a designated establishment or with laboratory animals but does have relevant experience working with aquatic species, we will still consider your application with a view to under-appointing to the role at a lower salary point (£18,852 - £20,600). The necessary training and support shall be provided to the applicant in order to attain the level of skill and experience necessary within an agreed period from appointment. Once this has been attained the appropriate salary grade shall be applied.
