Position Overview & Specifications

The role

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented researcher with an interest in evidence synthesis to join our team. You will be part of the newly established Bristol NIHR Evidence Synthesis Group, one of nine groups contracted by the NIHR to conduct evidence syntheses within the NIHR remit.

You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team benefiting from working alongside international leaders in the field of evidence synthesis. You will also work closely with other team members including other reviewers, statisticians, information specialists, qualitative researchers, and health economists.

You will be provided with development opportunities to ensure you have the skills necessary for this role and to stay up to date with the latest methodologies. The post is available from the 1 April 2023 for three years in the first instance. Requests for part time or flexible working patterns will be considered.

What will you be doing?

You will contribute across all aspects of the review process, including screening to identify studies eligible for inclusion in the review; extraction of information about included studies; evaluation of the quality or risk of bias of the included studies; and synthesis of the results of these studies using an appropriate approach (e.g., using meta-analysis or descriptive syntheses). You will contribute to the preparation of reports and papers for publication and participate effectively in activities to maximise engagement with research, and/or impact beyond academia.

The role would suit applicants with a demonstrable enthusiasm for evidence synthesis. You will be provided with development opportunities to ensure you have the skills necessary for this role and to stay up to date with the latest methodologies. Attendance at short courses will be encouraged, and other training will be provided as required. You will also be encouraged to gain experience of teaching on our local courses.

You should apply if

You have:

  • A postgraduate degree (e.g. MSc) in epidemiology, public health, medical statistics or other relevant discipline
