The Department of Life Sciences wish to appoint a Research Technician to work on a project investigating genetics of a gastrointestinal nematode parasite. You will join the Hunt laboratory at the University of Bath and work closely with collaborators at the University of Liverpool.

The main roles include field work for sample collection, maintenance of parasite cultures in the laboratory, and basic laboratory work eg DNA extraction, and you will be required to obtain a Home Office Personal License.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Visit field site locations to collect samples.
  • Maintain parasite life cycles in a rodent host.
  • Prepare DNA and RNA from samples for sequencing.
  • Following basic laboratory protocols e.g. for cryopreservation of nematodes in liquid nitrogen.
  • Work collaboratively with project partners at the University of Liverpool.

Experience working with rodents and/or nematodes is preferred but not essential and you will be fully trained in all of the laboratory techniques required for the post.
