Position Overview & Specifications
The multidisciplinary team includes 5 Specialist CF nurses, 4 specialist Physiotherapists and physiotherapy technician, 2 specialist dieticians and dietetic assistant, a CF social worker, 2 CF psychologists, CF pharmacist, CF Fellow (this post), CF rotational Specialty Registrar and ward team of junior doctors, alongside other rotational posts at the Centre.
Most patients are seen within 3 multidisciplinary clinics per week but urgent cases are seen as ‘drop-ins’. In-patients are admitted to Ward A800 depending on microbiology status; en-suite facilities are available for all patients. We provide dedicated pre-pregnancy, antenatal and postnatal support jointly with CF Maternal Medicine consultants within the Trust. We run regular CF Diabetes clinics with a consultant diabetologist with a specialist interest in CF. We have strong microbiology support with a weekly CF microbiology meetings
The post is open to post-Foundation training doctors of any grade – it has been held in the past by post-F2, post-CMT and post-CCT (pre-consultant) grade doctors and responsibilities will be tailored to the individual. The hours of work are 9am-5pm Monday-Friday. On call is not part of the post; options for locum out of hours work are available. Applications for part time or job share will be considered.

The post holder will also be encouraged to take part in the department’s active research & audit programme, using timetabled study time, with the expectation of publishing and presenting regionally, nationally and internationally. The post also includes responsibilities to develop and contribute to continuing education, professional development and audit. The post would ideally suit applicants who intend to pursue a career in respiratory medicine and/or cystic fibrosis but may also suit those interested in careers to other specialties such as medical microbiology, gastroenterology or endocrinology.
No specialist experience or knowledge of cystic fibrosis medicine is required – training is provided on the job. The service is led by highly engaged and available consultants, and the job offers the chance to work in a genuinely multidisciplinary environment.
