Position Overview & Specifications
We are offering a Grade 5 Lab Technician position to work in a lipid research laboratory. This is an exceptional opportunity to be part of research groups covering novel areas of lipid, peripheral neuropathy, and obesity research. The research will be carried out using biospecimens, including blood, using cellular and molecular biology techniques. The successful candidate will work with Professor Handrean Soran and his team and be embedded within a thriving research environment within the Cardiovascular Division at the University of Manchester. The successful candidate needs to conduct experiments, assist students and team members, conduct individual and collaborative research projects, and contribute to abstract and research papers for publication.
Experience with RT-Qpcr, DNA/RNA/microRNA/protein extraction, experience in Primer design, DNA methylation by pyrosequencing and Genotyping and immunocytochemistry staining, cell culture, western blotting, ELISAs, PCR, qPCR, histology, and immunohistochemistry is essential. Research animal model maintenance and in vivo experimentation are desirable. Duties will also include preparing solutions, buffers, and record-keeping, providing laboratory support for current projects and helping students to improve their laboratory skills.
As this role involves research at a postgraduate level, applicants who are not an EEA national or a national of an exempt country and who will require sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route of the UK Visas and Immigration’s (UKVI) Points Based System in order to take up the role, will be required to apply for an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) Certificate and will need to obtain this prior to making any official visa application UKVI)
