Position Overview & Specifications

The Support Worker will work together with the CCNS and members of the multidisciplinary team to provide a high standard of care to patients and provide support to their families.

They will be mainly based within Clinical Suite, a Paediatric Community Clinic setting, but also be available to work within the main CCNS setting and the two Special Schools within the service.

In addition the post holder will answer the phone, file and support clerical staff in their absence. To play an active part in the continuing development of the service and actively contribute to the maintenance of an environment conducive to the delivery of high standards of patient care by promoting good communication and relationships between staff, patients, relatives and visitors.

He / she will be trained and competencies assessed in taking and recording designated observations, clinical procedures and the administration of medication under the direction and guidance of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse. They will ensure appropriate equipment is available, maintained with support from the Senior Sister.

The post holder, with awareness of the multiple needs of the patients and their families, will provide skilled children’s nursing care and support and promote the optimum level of independence and the quality of life for all
children within the caseload.

To undertake tasks and procedures without direct supervision, in which competency has been assessed and recorded specific to the clinical/care environment, including for example venepuncture.

Support the registered nurse in implementation of an agreed plan of care with the patient and in accordance with instructions and training received working regularly without direct supervision.

Administer medication in line with medication policy and the individual’s care plans. To assist in maintaining accurate and legible nursing records of care and other documentation as required by the post.

Managing Equipment and ensuring equipment is stored and serviced appropriately, remains in good working order and actively reports any problems and/or faults to the appropriate supervisor/manager/department.
