Our client specialises in implementing Totara Learning and Performance Management Systems that help organisations improve the way they manage their staff.

They have a deep knowledge and experience of the UK healthcare and public sectors and are unique in their understanding of people, education, compliance, and technology.

On their behalf we are looking for an experienced PHP Developer to join their busy team.

Main responsibilities:

  • Designing, building custom-built applications to meet all defined specification.
  • Maintaining existing codebase in line with version release and core code changes
  • Create requirement specification for developments or improvements for existing developments
  • Working and assisting others in a team orientated environment
  • Ability to organise own projects and associated tasks using Jira and Confluence
  • Core understanding of system design and overall architecture with attention to detail for producing and writing robust, readable code
  • Contribute to team process and best practice in relation to project management and coding principles, standards and methods
  • Helping with support of existing customer sites and involvement in new customer site custom developments

The following technical skills and experience are required:

  • Experience in writing robust, object-oriented PHP code with at least two years experience
  • Experience with writing testing scripts for code you have developed.
  • Experience in version control - GIT
  • Methodical approach to bug tracking and resolution

Any of the following would be a bonus, but not essential:

  • Degree in Software Engineering or equivalent course
  • Experience and knowledge in higher-level concepts such as domain driven development, architectural patterns, etc
  • Experience in test driven development is advantageous
  • Exposure and experience of AWS hosting and management services
  • Experience with using the Jira toolkit for project management
  • Experience with using Docker
  • Experience of GNU/Linux based operating systems
  • Experience in API design/implementation
  • Experience of Moodle based sytems
  • Experience using Wordpress
  • Experience with PostgreSQL and Mysql
  • Unit testing with PHPUnit
