Ward Housekeeper

Ward 31 is an Outpatient Haemodialysis Unit, based at Freeman Hospital. This is a 47 station unit providing care for outpatients undergoing chronic haemodialysis treatment.

This facility offers a fantastic environment for both patients and staff and this an exciting time for development and improvement of the service within this area.

The role of the ward housekeeper is vital in the ongoing maintenance of ward cleanliness and hygiene. The post holder will also be involved in the monitoring and management of ward stock, some aspects of paperwork and the support of patients in their care and nutritional needs.

The post holder will support the healthcare professionals within the clinical area and undertake housekeeping responsibilities which will ensure high standards of cleanliness are maintained within the ward environment. They will also be involved with supporting patients with nutritional needs and will have some clerical and administrative responsibilities.

Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team are essential as well as enthusiasm and motivation in the department of the post. Some experience or knowledge of the healthcare environment would be desirable.

• Be an effective member of the multi-disciplinary team assisting the Ward /Department to maintain a safe, clean and comfortable environment for the patients, their families and visitors.
• Stocking up and ordering of supplies used within the ward using a computer ordering system.
• decontaminating of all equipment used within the ward.

• Report any concerns regarding the patient’s condition to the qualified nurse.
• Maintain patient’s privacy and dignity at all times.
• Report to the Nurse in Charge any issues that may prevent cleaning or compromise the safety of the environment.
• Actively contribute to the provision of nutrition of the patients on the Ward / Department.
• May undertake administrative and clinical duties as required.
• To abide by Trust policies and procedures.
