Trainee Curtain and Blind Maker

We are seeking a Trainee Curtain & Blind Maker to join our growing team of soft furnishers at our new workroom set in the beautiful Granary in Berkeley Castle Estate.

The successful candidate will be assisting Senior Curtain and Blind Makers with hand-sewing high-end soft furnishings. Full training will be provided and you do not have to have specific experience to apply. However you should have good hand-eye coordination, a solid work ethic, an ability to maintain consistent standards, high levels of attention to detail and a pride in making things.

The role is varied but will mostly involve following our jobsheets, and:

• Hand sewing hems and linings
• Sewing hand headings
• Assembling roman blinds
• Assisting the workroom team as required

Ideally this role will be full-time, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, but could be part-time for the right candidate. We would also consider hours to fit around family life.

The recruitment process will be as follows:

• Informal interview (20 minutes)
• Hand sewing test to your assess ability to learn (1.5 hours)

An offer of employment will be subject to evidence of your eligibility to work in the UK, receipt of satisfactory references in respect of your previous employment/experience, and you satisfactorily completing a medical examination with an appropriate medical officer if required.

Your continued employment would be conditional upon satisfactory completion of a three-month probationary period. During the first month of this period, both the colleague and the Company will assess and review your place in the Company to ensure it is a good fit for both parties.

During this period either you or the Company may terminate your employment on one week’s notice given in writing. The Company reserves the right to make a payment in lieu of notice at its discretion.

We may extend this period by a further three months if we consider it appropriate to do so and will set clear goals and outcomes so you are clear what you need to achieve .
