Ground Transportation Systems (GTS) UK are helping to shape the future of the rail industry. We specialise in signalling and communication, partnering with the biggest names in the industry to deliver the rail of the future. This role is expected to transition to Hitachi Rail as part of the transfer of ownership of GTS from Thales.
Our Opportunity
We are currently looking for a Human Factors Engineer to join our team who can assist with bidding, project delivery and product development.
For this role you will need to have a few years of post-qualification experience behind you and have a desire to create value for our customers and within the wider team. We work closely with the engineering and safety functions and engage directly with our end users, so strong stakeholder communication is key to the success of this role.
This position is based from our offices in London – depending on the project needs we vary our location between St Katherine’s Dock, Stratford and Waterloo. There will also be a need to travel to customer sites and other office locations.
Key Responsibilities:
You will responsible for providing specialist Human Factors support across rail sector bids, projects, products and functions. As well as developing and prompting the integration of Human Factors related activities within the wider business.
Key activities include
  • Providing Human Factors integration and support to GTS bids
  • Providing Human Factors support to GTS projects and product development, whilst working within agreed timescales and budget
  • Stakeholder management within GTS and with customers
  • Utilising GTS internal operational resources to ensure products and projects meet the needs of the end user groups
  • Carrying out Human Factors activities at all stages of the systems design lifecycle
  • Evaluating Human Factors related issues in order to develop proposals for investigations and/or solutions.
  • Supporting team development
Technical Skills and Experience
You will need to demonstrate the following competencies:
  • A broad Human Factors skill base, with proven ability to lead, conduct and support work packages in Human Factors disciplines
  • Understanding of bidding and winning work
  • Experience performing Human Factors design activities relating to Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), alarms and workload
  • Perform Human Factors integration within large multidisciplinary projects
  • Experience with implementing Human Factors in a safety critical industry (preferably Rail)
  • Lead Human Factors work packages as well as support within a team
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with ability to adapt message content depending on the audience or stakeholder set
  • Research and apply suitable Human Factors methods to novel projects where there is no existing process
Human Skills
We are looking for someone who is passionate about Human Factors and wants to do the right thing for the end users of a system or product.
You will also need to:

  • Be creative when it comes to problem solving
  • Be able to communicate at all levels across the business
  • Strive for continuous improvement
  • Work on multiple projects at the same time and be able to prioritise tasks and stakeholder management
Qualifications:
  • Degree or Masters in Ergonomics/Human Factors
  • Working towards chartership with the CIEHF
