The Christie Pathology Partnership was formed in 2014 and is a joint venture between The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and SYNLAB, the largest provider of laboratory pathology and diagnostic services in Europe.
The Christie Pathology Partnership is seeking to recruit a Band 5 Medical Examiners’ Officer (MEO) to join our Bereavement department.
Duties include:
- Act as an intermediary between the bereaved and clinicians to establish and resolve any concerns relating to a patient’s death. Work with medical examiners to aid them in their responsibility for overseeing the death certification process for all deceased patients in the organisation.
- Establish the circumstances of individual patient deaths by performing a preliminary review of medical records to identify clinical and circumstantial information, sourcing additional details where required, for scrutiny by the medical examiner.
- Communicate highly complex and sensitive, confidential information concerning patients.
- Participate in the on-call service required by the department.
The MEO role will sit within the mortuary and bereavement department, which is regulated by the Human Tissue Authority.
Educated to Batchelor’s degree level or equivalent working knowledge in related field; or evidence of study/equivalent practical experience at an advanced level; this might include nursing and/or other clinical experience.
Formal MEO training provided by the Royal College of Pathologists (successful candidates will be expected to enrol on this and complete the course during the first six months of employment if they do not already have this qualification.)
