Position Overview & Specifications

At Swindon Borough Council, we want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that’s who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council, you’ll support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It’s all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.

We are looking for someone who is energetic, enthusiastic, with a real ‘can do’ attitude and who is not afraid to make an impact. We want you to bring your brilliant administrative, and people person skills with you when you join us, so that together we can support the most vulnerable children in Swindon and really make a difference to their lives.

The Challenge and Participation team is also based within this service, as is the Foster Carer Independent Reviewing Officer. The Team is therefore responsible for a range of confidential and sensitive information about Children Looked After, Child Protection, Allegation Management and Participation.

We put the child at the center of everything that we do, and we need you to join us in doing this. Interestingly we are renowned for developing would be social workers from within our business support team; to date there have been 4 such people who are at least in the process of achieving this.

This role is based within the Quality Assurance and Review Team in Children’s Services, the primary role of this post is to take minutes for a variety of meetings, as mentioned above. You will attend and observe meetings between parents, children, and many other professionals, including police and social workers.

You will accurately record and take detailed notes of meetings, including the key actions. In Child Protection Conferences you will type ‘live’ into the plan which is produced in the meeting. You will be highly-organised and comfortable meeting deadlines and managing your workload around scheduled meetings. Due to the sensitive nature of the meetings, you will need to meet data protection and confidentiality procedures as well as be able to process information of a potentially distressing nature.

This is a wonderfully challenging and rewarding role, working as part of a busy team making a positive difference to children’s lives. Your commitment will be rewarded with full training and development, 24 days annual leave and a competitive salary and pension.

Knowledge and Experience:

 Excellent minute taking or audio typing, with the ability to type straight on to a laptop
 Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
 Emotionally resilient, able to process information of a potentially distressing nature
 Ability to concentrate for long periods, despite distractions and disruptions

If you believe you have the skills and experience to apply to this new challenge, we would love to receive your application.
