Position Overview & Specifications

This is an exciting role to work with Sustrans and our partner, Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole Council. You will be supporting sustainable transport, improving air quality and assisting pupils and their families to travel actively to and from school.

  • Contract: Fixed term until 31 December 2023
  • Location: Local authority offices in Bournemouth with the flexibility to work from home
  • Part Time 18.75 hours per week – happy to talk flexible working
  • £25,561 per annum (pro rata for part-time hours)

About the role
This is an exciting role to work with Sustrans and our partner, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council (BCP).
You will be supporting sustainable transport, improving air quality and assisting pupils and their families to travel actively to and from school.
Working closely with selected schools in the region, you will help deliver the Bike It Plus programme. You will offer a tailored package of support to enable more pupils and their families to walk, wheel, cycle and scoot to school more regularly, and cut down on the number of journeys made by car.
Along with the Bike it Plus Programme, you will also work with BCP Council on their School Streets programme. You will work with schools and their wider communities to set up new schemes which create traffic-free, safe spaces outside schools. You will also provide support to run these as well as existing School Streets.
This role will require you to travel actively and sustainably and work at locations across the project area as necessary on behalf of Sustrans.

About you
You should have experience in engaging, motivating and coaching people as well as experience working with young people and an understanding of safeguarding.
You will have the ability to easily build relationships with a wide range of people from diverse communities, school senior leadership teams and council representatives.
We ask you to demonstrate your experience in developing and delivering fun and engaging activities, including physical activities, and organising and leading events.
The role of Bike It Plus and School Streets Officer requires someone who has knowledge of the local area. You will be able to work independently, manage your workload and work well as part of a team.

Additional Information

  • Interviews will take place via MS Teams during the week 06 March 2023.
  • A Sustrans-wide pay review is pending, so the starting salary will be higher than currently advertised. As yet we do not have details of the new salary points.
