We have an exciting opportunity to join our brilliant Catering Team as we prepare to move to our brand new Hospice at Pease Pottage, Crawley.

Are you someone who enjoys cooking high-quality homemade food? Would you thrive in a friendly, busy kitchen? And enjoy using your cooking skills to help people facing the end of their life to enjoy their favourite food again? If the answers yes, St Catherines Hospice would love to hear from you.

Working as a part of our friendly catering team, every day youll make a difference to terminally ill people. Youll use your skills to lead our kitchen and to help create daily breakfast, lunch and supper menus for patients staying on our wards, so youll need previous cooking experience and a strong understanding of different nutritional needs.

As our cook youll interact with patients, relatives and colleagues. Youll be a confident communicator who enjoys meeting lots of different people. Youll have the ability to work positively as part of a team and have a good understanding of statutory requirements regarding health and safety. Youll also have a can-do, enthusiastic attitude that helps people create precious memories when it matters most.

Youll need to be flexible and ready for any request. One day you might be decorating patient meal trays, the next, baking a beautiful cake for a birthday or wedding celebration or cooking a special candlelit anniversary dinner for a couple.

Ideally, were looking for people who have experience cooking within a health care setting and experience of working with volunteers as our kitchen has wonderful volunteer support.

This post is offered on a full time basis, working 37.5 hours per week, on a rotational shift pattern to include share of weekends off and with no late night working.

We are located in Malthouse Road, Crawley, West Sussex, which is within commuting distance from Brighton and London and just a 5-minute walk from Crawley railway station. In Autumn of 2023 we will be relocating to Pease Pottage where this role will then be based.
