Position Overview & Specifications

The Maxillofacial, Orthodontic and Restorative Dentistry Department is looking for a dynamic, conscientious, hard working team player, to work across Somerset Foundation Trust Sites, leading and supporting the nursing team.

This includes Musgrove Park Hospital, Quantock View Dental Practice, Heavitree in Exeter and Bridgwater Community Hospital. All of the departments are busy but friendly. Travel is essential, therefore, ideally you will be a car driver with a valid driving licence or have access to transport with appropriate business insurance in order to travel throughout the Trust, to meet the needs of the service.

The candidate must hold National Dental Nurse Qualification and Dental Radiography and be fully registered with the General Dental Council.

The post holder will be required to assist the Senior Specialist Dental Nurse in the management, day to day operational running and organisation of a demanding unit.

The post holder will provide a caring/professional and specialised assistance and support for the Maxillofacial, Orthodontic and Restorative clinicians.

Provide pre/post operative specialised advice to patients.

Assist in the smooth running of the department and provide professional care and specialised knowledge for a wide range of patients including children, adults, special needs, trauma and oncology patients.

Assist Consultants, Registrars and Clinicians with a variety of specialised procedures including emergency treatments, trauma, skin biopsies, oral surgery, restorative and reconstructive treatments and all aspects of orthodontics. This will involve preparation of specialised/expensive equipment and materials.

Attend theatre sessions to gain knowledge and experience so they can apply a holistic approach for all patient needs when staffing levels allow.

Act and work independently managing clinics effectively and efficiently, and as a valued member of the multi disciplinary team within the trust.

The post holder will need to travel between work at other trust sites on a regular basis (this could be at short notice) so will need own transport or use of public transport.

As an organisation, the NHS offers a wide range of benefits including flexible working, pension contributions, market leading annual leave allowance, career progression and regular conversations, not to mention our Blue Light Card and NHS exclusive discounts.

The benefits of working in Somerset include the idyllic countryside, with our areas of outstanding beauty and stunning coastlines. You will get to enjoy these perks whilst still only being a stone’s throw away from bustling city centres like Bristol, Bath and Exeter and only two hours away from London.

There are excellent educational facilities in the area and, when compared to other regions, house prices are reasonable. You will experience the best of both in Somerset, the countryside and the cosmopolitan – there is truly something for everyone!

Ideally you will be a car driver with a valid driving licence or have access to transport with appropriate business insurance in order to travel throughout the Trust, to meet the needs of the service.
