Position Overview & Specifications

About The Role

Simplyhealth is a 150-year-old business with an amazing heritage and history of changing healthcare in the UK. We’re continually modernising, as reflected by the recent award to B-Corp status; something that is very important to our customers and to our people.

We have 2 million customers across our Health and Dental products and with an ever-increasing strain on the NHS, and a cost-of-living crisis, the products that Simplyhealth offer are needed more than ever before. But Simplyhealth have bigger ambitions than that. We’re on a mission to improve access to healthcare for everyone in the UK to help people live their best lives.

We're looking for a Paralegal to work with and support the General Counsel and Company Secretary, Head of Legal and wider Legal team in promoting high quality legal function aligned to the culture and strategy of Simplyhealth. We're looking for someone who can exercise judgement to engage, advise, inform and collaborate to, ultimately, achieve the best outcome for the business. This role will involve constructively challenging the business and critically questioning where needed as well as delivering legal advice in a commercial, pragmatic and user-friendly way to a variety of internal stakeholders across the business.
Some Key responsibilities will include:
  • To provide advice on a diverse range of matters (with suitable support and guidance where appropriate from a member of the Legal Team), including commercial contracts, intellectual property, consumer/product liability, competition law
  • Ensure the legal function delivers clear measurable value to the business.
  • To be proactive in one’s own personal development to lead to better performance.
We’re interested in what you do and how you do things, not when and where you do them. Our ‘smart working’ approach gives you the best of all worlds – working from home, in our modern offices in Hampshire or on the move. This means depending on your role, there will be opportunities to flex when and where you spend your time to perform at your very best. For many of us this means day to day work can be handled remotely, but there will also be times when we need to come together in the office to collaborate, attend training sessions, induction, briefings and more. You might know it as flexible or hybrid working, for us it’s just another day living our best lives!

About You

We're looking for candidates who have:

  • Experience of working in an in-house legal advisory role or general commercial / corporate private practice.
  • An understanding appreciation of legal and commercial risk.
  • Experience of providing advice on 3rd party contracts

In Return

As well as a competitive salary, our benefits package includes a discretionary annual bonus, generous pension, 36 days holiday (with the option to buy and sell a further 5 days), a flexible benefits pot (which you can choose to use against some great benefits such as critical illness, private medical insurance, shopping vouchers, pet insurance and more), a Simplyhealth Cash plan or Dental plan, an employee wellbeing programme and shopping discounts.

By joining us on our journey to becoming the biggest brand in healthcare behind the NHS, you’ll get to bring your knowledge and all round ‘let’s do this’ attitude. You can be yourself whilst making a difference to our customers. You’ll be encouraged to work at pace and not be afraid to try new things. You can fail fast, learn quickly and be the best version of you. We want you to ask questions and challenge what’s gone before so you can continually push yourself to find new and better ways to improve access to healthcare for all in the UK. Not bad for a day’s work!
