Position Overview & Specifications

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated registered nurse who has experience caring for teenage and young adult cancer patients.

As the TYA nursing expert at the PTC, you will be expected to have a strong level of understanding of all aspects of TYA cancer care.

You will play a key role in maintaining and developing/improving the quality of services and patient care within the PTC.

The post holder will promote and develop existing networks between the PTC and key personnel within regional designated hospital trusts, ensuring that patient pathways within the network are optimised, and that all TYA patients diagnosed with cancer within the region are offered equitable access to age-appropriate cancer care facilities, holistic support, and expert clinical care.

Participation in relevant national and international TYA groups

The post holder is required to be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. TYA cancer qualifications would be desirable.

You will demonstrate a passion for working with the TYA patient population and evidence skill and expertise in managing this complex patient group

The Band 6 TYA Clinical Nurse Specialist will work closely with the Band 7 TYA CNS to provide the delivery of care to TYAs in South Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire, and North Derbyshire. The Band 6 TYA CNS will manage a caseload of young adults with a cancer from diagnosis ensuring high standards of care are maintained for the patients and their families within this area.

The Band 6 TYA Clinical Nurse Specialist will:
Deliver high quality specialist care for teenagers and young adults with malignant disease in a variety of settings, ensuring seamless delivery across the hospital/primary care interface at local and regional level.

Work with palliative care teams to co-ordinate and manage palliative and end of life care at home for patients.

To co-ordinate and manage the care of teenagers and young adults with a cancer diagnosis/haematological cancer ensuring a smooth transition from diagnosis and surgical management.

Provide specialist advice and support, education and information to primary healthcare workers, support and information for teenagers and young adults and their families/carers.

Ensure community working set up during the pandemic is maintained, ensuring patient choice.

All staff recruited post February 2020 are required and it is a condition of employment that they are also able, to undertake duties at any of the other sites where Sheffield Teaching Hospitals is responsible for delivering cancer treatment activity. It is anticipated that this may include the hospitals at Barnsley, Chesterfield, Rotherham, Doncaster as well as any other sites within the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Cancer Network.
