Position Overview & Specifications

The SNP Westminster Group is looking to recruit a full time Researcher (Finance & Economy).

Reporting to the Director of Research, the Researcher will support the work of the SNP's team of 45 MPs in Westminster.

Location: The SNP Westminster Group operates a system of hybrid working. Staff are required to work from our offices in the House of Commons, Westminster, London some of the time, as part of a rota system, and can choose to work remotely, or from the office, the rest of the time.

Salary: Salary band A/1 (from £28,581). The SNP Westminster Group offers a 10% employer pension contribution and 30 days annual leave, plus bank holidays.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Draft research proposals and commission research projects

· Provide written analysis for major set pieces related to this policy area e.g. Budget and Autumn Statements

· Undertake research using qualitative / quantitative and mixed methodologies related to the policy area/s.

· Support the relevant Spokespeople and MPs scrutinise legislation and draft amendments, as well as support MPs parliamentary committee work and provide briefings and questions for parliamentary debates

· Identify and research policy development opportunities to reflect the Party’s manifesto and policy framework

· Produce robust policy and political analysis for use in both internal and external communication

· Identify and develop partnership opportunities with stakeholders such as, think tanks, associations, diplomatic community and other relevant organisations

· Assist MP constituency offices with queries.

· Generate content in collaboration with the Group Communications and Media team as required

Reporting to Senior Researchers (Finance & Economy) and from time to time, the Director of Research, the incumbent will focus on dealing with complex issues and prominent topics related to the constitutional affairs policy area, to support the SNP Westminster Group of MPs (currently 45). The post holder should also demonstrate skills, abilities and experience as follows:

KEY SKILLS & ABILITIES

1. Good communication skills

2. Sound political and professional judgement

3. Previous work experience in constitutional issues and related public policy preferred

4. Ability to research various public policy practices

5. Experience of dealing with public bodies or political organisations

6. Good time management

QUALIFICATIONS

Ideally a Degree in Political Science, Law, Economic & Social Affairs and/or other relevant studies. We are keen to hear from candidates from a wide variety of backgrounds. Applications are encouraged from those with relevant experience whether that is work, voluntary or educational.
