Position Overview & Specifications

Overview:
This role involves working as part of the Information Assurance and Data Protection Branch, which provides advice and guidance to areas across the Scottish Government on data protection.

Working in this branch offers an opportunity to provide assistance to projects across the Scottish Government, ranging in subject, scale and complexity, as well as assisting areas in complying with legal requirements around data breaches and data rights requests.

There is also scope to work on projects within the branch itself, including creating and improving internal guidance and training materials for other staff.

Digital (DDaT) Pay Supplement

This post attracts a £5000 DDaT pay supplement after a 3 months DDaT competency qualifying period. Pay supplements are temporary payments and are subject to regular review.
Responsibilities:
  • Devising policies and guidance, and delivering advice to secure and protect personal data.
  • Reviewing and providing feedback on data protection documentation, including impact assessments, privacy notices, and data sharing agreements.
  • Investigating security incidents involving personal data and suggest containment and mitigation actions.
  • Assisting in responses to data subject rights requests
  • Maintaining a corporate register of information assets, and providing advice to areas cataloguing their assets on this register
  • Provide training and communication to inspire and influence others to handle data securely and lawfully.
  • Cultivating key contacts in relevant business areas to share good practice in securing and protecting personal data and information assets.

Essential Criteria & Qualifications:
No specific qualifications required.

Essential Criteria

1. Previous experience of working in data protection/information governance role and good knowledge of the UK General Data Protection Regulation, Data Protection Act 2018, and Information Commissioner’s Office guidance.

2. Excellent communication skills and experience of communicating to different audiences, including senior management, with the ability to describe technical issues in a non-technical manner.

3. Proven organisational ability, and ability to work proactively and without supervision, show initiative and contribute ideas to improve team procedures.

4. An excellent team player with ability to work closely with others to deliver results.
