Scope is a disability equality charity in England and Wales. Together we are Disability Gamechangers. We work to a society where all disabled people enjoy equality and fairness. We campaign tirelessly for everyday equality for disabled people.

Are you passionate about disability equality and making sure disabled people’s voices are heard in the media?

Are you looking to build a career in charity communications?

We have an exciting opportunity to join Scope’s media team and support the work we do to champion disability equality in the media.

As Media and PR Assistant, you will be part of the wider communications team at Scope. You will be working with colleagues across the charity to support with developing hard-hitting media campaigns which highlight the issues affecting disabled people, and what needs to change to achieve equality for disabled people.

Permanent, 35 hours per week

Location: Here East Press Centre, 14 East Bay Lane, London, E15 2GW with working from home some or most of the time.

This role will form a key part of our dynamic press office. As a leading voice on disability equality, Scope receives a multitude of requests from national media outlets.

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills in communications and PR.

You will:

    Support the team to respond to requests from journalists and reacting to the rolling news agenda, ensuring disabled people’s voices are being heard.
    Support with the day-to-day running of the press office, prioritising requests from journalists and liaising with a wide range of media professionals.
    Help to directly support disabled people to share their stories in the media.
    Gain valuable experience of working in a creative and dynamic communications team
    Get a first-rate insight into how the media operates and how charities seek to influence change.
    With the support of the team, monitor media coverage, contribute to forward planning and create evaluation reports to demonstrate the impact of the team’s work.

About you

This role would suit someone who:

    Has done an internship or apprenticeship and is now looking for a permanent position to grow and develop their skills, with a passion and interest in media and disability equality.
    Is flexible, supportive and has excellent organisational skills.
    Has a keen interest in disability equality, current affairs and the media.
    Has an appreciation of Scope’s values and our ambition of everyday equality for disabled people.
