Position Overview & Specifications

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapy Technician to work in a busy fracture clinic and assist the occupational therapists in the Splinting and Bracing team with routine administration and stock control. the work is rewarding and the successful candidate will be trained to fit braces to adults and children with orthopaedic trauma. At times applicants will be expected to work with minimal supervision. A basic qualification or experience in healthcare would be an advantage along with good communication skills, a caring demeanour and a technical/mechanical aptitude.

To support Occupational Therapists in the day-to-day running of the Therapy Department's Splinting and Bracing service.
1. To be responsible for fitting basic orthopaedic braces and boots in clinic, and occasionally on the wards.
2. Fitting, adjusting and adapting braces
3. Explaining wearing regimes and training patients and their carers how to fit and remove.
4. Administration and clerical duties as required.
5. Maintenanceand cleaning of equipment as necessary.
6. To assist in the management of stock.

1. To be responsible for ensuring an effective and timely bracing service to fracture clinic and other clinics/wards as required. This will include regular attendance in fracture clinic and the fitting and adjusting of off-the-shelf braces on patients.
2. Use of tools relevant to the job (heat gun, saw, and screwdrivers).
3. To assist qualified occupational therapists in the fitting and adjustment of complex braces and thermoplastic splints.
4. Carry out basic office administration, e.g., photocopying, telephone calls.
5. Basic management of stock, including ordering and topping up.
6. Cleaning of equipment.
7. To maintain clinical competence and be an active member of the in-service training programme by attending presentations and training sessions at staff meetings, tutorials, and training sessions both in house and by attending external courses and through reflective practice.
8. To participate in the staff appraisal scheme and Personal Development Plan (PDP) as an appraisee.
9. To be actively involved in the collection of appropriate data and statistics for the use of the department as required.
10. To comply with the departmental and organisational policies.
11. To ensure that you implement policy and service development changes.
12. To undertake any other duties that might be considered appropriate by the Therapy Leads
