Position Overview & Specifications
Part time position, with the opportunity to apply for more hours if required.
We are looking for another person to join our small friendly team. We currently milk 250 Autumn and 160 Spring cows, calved in blocks, through a 24/48 auto id and acr parlour.
We graze as much as possible, using a paddock system. The cows are cubicle housed in the Winter with automatic scrapers and fed using a self-feed silage clamp, this means that we do not have a feeder waggon and using the scraper tractor is a 5 minute job.
Milkings, calf feeding, tractor driving and weekend work will be split between staff, however if staff have a passion or are really good at one of the above we will endeavour for you to do more of the job you love most. Hours are an average of 18 hours per week, based on a four week rota, only one milking per day Monday to Friday and every other weekend off, plus one day off in the week every other week.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about dairy farming and has a keen interest in stock.
Ideally this position would suit someone who has had experience on a dairy farm, however training where necessary will be provided.
We run such a simple system here, that we are able to train someone who is willing to give our stock the best quality of care, we can provide on the job training as well as external training if wanted. We regularly send staff on training courses in foot trimming, and various vet run clinics covering a range of topics. If a staff member has a particular area of interest or shows an interest in any particular course, we are happy as an employer to support this.
Day to day activities include milking, feeding, management of both grassland and youngstock.
Salary is dependant on experience, and is on a pro rata basis. If little or no training is needed you will start on a higher salary, however all salaries are competitive and will see regular increases as you progress. We have a competitive basic salary, and then also offer a bonus scheme for those who strive for perfection to make sure that you are being rewarded for your effort. If eligible you will be enrolled onto our company pension scheme and receive holiday entitlement based on the hours you work.
