Let us describe the challenge we offer

In our UK R&D department, we are expanding our Body Structures CAE capability, this is your chance to join our team and develop world-class body structures for exciting new Polestar vehicles. You will tackle a broad range of CAE activities from linear-statics, optimisation studies, to a wide range of full vehicle crash loadcases. This is a brand new team and you will have the opportunity to help us build our capabilities and methodologies as we grow. You will be positioned very closely with our design engineers giving you the ability to codevelop innovative solutions.

What you’ll do:

You will work on a diverse set of FEA tasks to support our Body Structures development activities, the majority of these are likely to be full vehicle crashworthiness studies but will also cover other disciplines. While working on each task you will be integrated very closely into the design process, working directly with our design engineers. Your duties will include;

  • Preparing and running DYNA full vehicle crash models for a variety of frontal, rear, or side crash loadcases.
  • Preparing and running implicit CAE models for a range of linear and non-linear cases, such as static stiffness, modal analysis, strength or fatigue analysis.
  • Proactively developing and testing solutions to structural issues in your CAE models.
  • Running optimisation studies, topology, and sizing.
  • Post processing results, presenting data to colleagues, preparing reports.
  • Correlation of CAE against physical test
  • Working closely with our CAE Integration team to develop our material cards and CAE methodologies

Who you are

To be a great fit for this position you will need to be a highly motivated engineer with a keen interest in simulation activities and a proactive approach to problem solving. You will need to possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

You must have significant experience in the application of CAE within the automotive industry, particularly:

  • A broad experience in automotive structural CAE, particularly crashworthiness, is absolutely essential.
  • A proven track record of delivering innovative CAE solutions
  • Experience with explicit FEA in LS DYNA is essential
  • Experience with implicit FEA in Nastran/Optistruct/Dyna Implicit is preferred
  • Experience with FEA pre and post processors such as Hyperworks, Ansa/Meta or Oasys is essential
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python would be seen as useful.

You should hold qualifications in Engineering at degree level or higher.

At Polestar, you will be part of a cross-functional and international team, with English as a natural language for written and spoken communication. Since Polestar’s in a scale-up phase you thrive by working in a fast-paced environment.
