About Our Client

A UK self-regulatory body for ensuring that all advertisements, wherever they appear, are legal, decent, honest and truthful. Responsible for writing and maintaining the Advertising Codes. The communications department promotes the work of the self-regulatory system to a wide range of audiences, including the public, the advertising industry, government, NGOs and the media. Misleading or irresponsible advertising commands a great deal of attention from politicians and journalists, and we want to reassure them that the self-regulatory system has a strong record of protecting consumers. To safeguard the public from irresponsible advertising we need to engage with some fast-moving legislative and regulatory debates, e.g. the online environment, advertising to children, gambling advertising, alcohol advertising, HFSS advertising.

Job Description

  • To co-ordinate the distribution of press cuttings and record our press and broadcast coverage
  • To monitor policy developments and parliamentary activities in the UK and Europe of relevance to advertising self-regulation, reporting internally on points of significance to the system
  • To deliver the publication of weekly rulings and their distribution to journalists
  • To draft correspondence and help respond to significant consultations
  • To liaise with Government officials and provide a response to enquiries
  • To draft and develop content for the website, newsletters, social media platforms and press releases
  • To draft briefing papers for the Senior Management Team
  • To represent the organisation to external audiences, including speaking at seminars and other events on behalf of the organisations
  • To support and contribute to effective internal communications
  • To support and develop the social media channels
  • To answer general enquiries from the public
  • To cover duties of colleagues in their absence and as appropriate
  • To undertake any projects that may be required by the Media and Public Affairs Manager
  • To support and work collaboratively with the Senior Media Relations Officer and Public Affairs Adviser

The Successful Applicant

  • This is a hands-on role, a fast-paced public affairs and media environment and no one day is the same. You will need to be engaged and interested in the workings of Government, have a hunger for the news and media relations and be passionate about communications. A team player and able to build relations internally including with senior colleagues and across departments you will also need the ability to think creatively and work autonomously
  • Have a real interest in the political and public affairs space
