Position Overview & Specifications
Assistantship in Child and Young Persons Health: September – December
The final year placement in Carlisle has been running for many years and has recently undergone an update with the new Newcastle MBBS curriculum. In this three-week block the focus is on students’ development of generic skills including communication, managing acute care scenarios, safeguarding and prescribing. It is undertaken largely as a clinical assistantship, however simulation using the trust’s paediatric and infant high-fidelity mannequins now forms a key part of the placement. You will have an important role in delivery of some of the bedside teaching and simulation involved in the course as well as assisting the paediatric undergraduate lead with the day-to-day organisation of sessions.
Integrated Core Clinical Placement: Child and Young People's Health: January - May
The 3rdyear placement runs as three repeated six week blocks for between five and seven students per rotation. The curriculum is broad and covers both acute inpatient and community paediatrics and related experiences. Supported by the paediatric lead, undergraduate faculty and administrative staff you will have significant input into the organisation, evaluation and delivery of the course in Carlisle. This is a unique opportunity to integrate your existing experience and knowledge of both paediatrics and medical education from theory to up-to-date innovations.
