Position Overview & Specifications

Position Description:

Mowbray’s Tree Service (MTS) General Foreman are responsible for coordinating the daily operations activities of their assigned crews. They serve as the main point of contact for the crew members under their supervision and their Area Manager. This position is designated as an exempt salaried position, so employees assigned as General Foreman are paid a fixed weekly salary. General Foreman are required to be on-call in the event of emergency work outside of their regular work hours, which may include traveling, meaning they could be away from home for extended periods of time. The General Foreman will report directly to their Area Manager.

Physical Requirements:

Due to the nature of the position, there are minimum physical requirements for the job. They are as follows:

  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Strength and endurance to perform medium to heavy labor.
  • Lift, carry, move, transfer, and position objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Squatting and or stooping.
  • Twisting motions of the waist and neck.
  • Manipulation of the hands and fingers to operate equipment, tools, and handle material.
  • Use of your hands to grasp, push, and pull as needed.
  • Reach above and below shoulder level with equipment and or material.

Responsibilities:

General Foreman have the authority and responsibility to STOP WORK at any time they determine that unsafe conditions exist, and must be able to communicate weaknesses and strengths in the following areas: span of control, communication, and technology.

Responsibilities: Safety

  • Understand, adhere to, and enforce all MTS policies and procedures.
  • Ensure crews have the appropriate safety gear (PPE) and supplies.
  • Assess each employee to ensure they are fit for duty prior to commencing work.
  • Work with the Safety Department to ensure that each employee is assigned to their correct position based on the assessments performed by the MTS Safety Department.
  • Submit a minimum of two (2) Safety Observations per day.
  • Submit all safety documentation: daily, weekly, and monthly.
  • Conduct daily/weekly Safety Toolbox Talks and 5-Minute Meetings.
  • Report all incidents/accidents to the MTS Safety Department and Area Manager.

Responsibilities: Operations

  • They are required to visit a minimum of four (4) crews per day.
  • They should be able to address weaknesses and strengths in the following areas: span of control, communication, and technology.
  • They are the main point of contact for customers, contractors, and agencies.
  • They must be able to organize and schedule jobsite activities for each crew.
  • Submit all required reports, including Logouts.
  • They’re required to review all job-related documentation, including all Utility related documentation, for errors and make corrections as necessary. Review all corrections with the Foremen who submitted them to avoid future errors.
  • Identify, resolve, and report any job site issues in a timely manner.
  • Investigate all customer complaints, claims, and report findings to the MTS Claims Department.
  • Work with Utility representatives to schedule outages and or line kills.
  • Schedule and coordinate all traffic control requirements.
  • Work with the Fleet Department and/or the Mechanized Equipment Department regarding any equipment required for the job.
  • Work with the Fleet Department regarding equipment issues: maintenance, damages, etc.
  • Work with the MTS Equipment Manager when requesting any PPE or gear for crew members.
  • Coordinate all emergency call outs.
  • Verify and approve employee timecards.
  • Respond to all employee calls.
  • Notify all crews of the local dump site.
  • Update the Area Manager with work completion progress. Request support, resources, and additional work when needed.

Responsibilities: Environmental

  • Work with the MTS Environmental Department regarding any work-related environmental issues
  • Complete Monthly Environmental performance reviews
  • Complete environmental compliance checks
  • Respond to all environmental events
  • Work with environmental coordinator(s)
  • Share environmental regulation training with crews, as needed.
  • Develop flow charts to share with crews regarding environmental compliance
  • Conduct mandatory environmental tailboards with crews prior to commencing work
  • Submit signed tailboards to the utility contact
  • Identify additional constraints prior to issuing work to crews

Qualification Requirements:

  • Minimum 5-years’ experience in Vegetation Management Utility Field Operations
  • Environmental Awareness Training w/MTS Environmental Department
  • Wildlife Awareness Training w/MTS Environmental Department
  • Interpersonal communication skills
  • Conflict resolution training
  • Fluent in the English Language
  • Bi-lingual (Preferred)

Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • Proficient in MS Office 365 and Outlook
  • CPR and First Aid Trained
  • Electric Hazards Awareness Program (EHAP) Training (must be renewed annually)
  • TRAQ (Tree Risk Assessment Qualified)
  • CTSP
  • Certified Arborist
  • OSHA 30
  • TCIA Step 1 and Step 2
  • TCIA Crew Leader Certified
  • MTS Safety Documentation Training
  • FEMA: Introduction to Incident Commands

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
