Position Overview & Specifications

Molly Limpet's Ltd requires a Sewing Machinist and Costume Maker to support its continued growth by creating theatrical costumes.

Emerging successfully out of the pandemic from a decimated theatre industry, Molly Limpet’s is keen to continue its current growth trajectory and recruit key members to our team.

Whilst our expectations for the role are very high, we are an extremely close-working team and no two days at Molly Limpet’s are the same, which makes the role we are advertising so exciting.

Initially the role will be a full-time, permanent position. Ideally, we would want the successful candidate to work office hours.

The role will be based in our fully equipped Sheffield-based Studio, just off the very sociable and busy Abbeydale Road, with great public transport links and affording free parking. The successful candidate will be rewarded with working very closely with our business owner who is an exceptional and unrivalled talent, with years of experience in his field. As such the role will provide the successful candidate with a unique and unparalleled learning opportunity from which to develop into an industry leading individual themselves. There may also be opportunities for additional training.

The business owner takes the role of in-house designer within the company and the makers’ role will require them to create theatrical costumes from sketches/drawings and existing patterns. That said, there is a distinct willingness from the owner for the successful candidate to display their own creative input, which will be strongly encouraged.

Key Skills required and/or an ability to demonstrate them:

· They will be able to use and re-size patterns of all periods/styles, as well as be able to draft new ones;

· They will have good knowledge of garment construction with experience of using a variety of fabrics, including lycra, knit, chiffon, foam, fur and fleece, while being able to produce output in a timely and quality controlled manner;

· They will be self-motivated, and able to show examples of working to strict deadlines and how to communicate progress;

· Experience of the following will be viewed favourably: stretch and dancewear;

· Other complimentary skills or areas of expertise will also be of interest;

· No specific qualifications are required, if the key skills we are looking for can be demonstrated. Five years' experience in a professional environment would be essential;

· Immediate start, but happy to allow time for relocation if necessary;

· Please let us know any access needs, should we need to make any accommodations for the recruitment process;

· Candidates from historically under-represented backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
