Position Overview & Specifications

As an engineering led business, technology is at the heart of everything that we do at MLL. Due to the continued expansion of the business and a growing suite of technology offerings we are now looking for a Unified Communications engineer join us on our journey.


The IT & Telecommunications market is going through an extremely exciting period of innovation and MLL are at the forefront, providing cutting edge solutions to our customers. Reporting to the Head of Networks & Security, the Unified Communications engineer will be a key member of the technical team, delivering crucial solutions for our customers.


The ideal candidate will have a broad background in the Telecoms/IT industry and be passionate about not only delivering technical solutions, but also contributing to the continual evolution of MLL’s propositions.


The key responsibilities of the Unified Communications Engineer are:


  • Proven experience working in an MSP, leading large scale project deliveries, and providing technical support for in-life customers.
  • Technical lead for project deployments, driving the collation of configuration requirements and building LLD.
  • Liaison with 3rd parties
  • Creating technical project documentation
  • Implementation and support of Microsoft Teams Phone System and Microsoft Teams Direct Routing
  • Implementation and support of Ribbon SBC platform
  • Designing and deploying carrier SIP solutions
  • Troubleshooting using industry standard tools
  • Support for enterprise customer network, including troubleshooting voice, video and data traffic.
  • Handling scripting and test automation
  • Transformation projects that migrate away from Carrier ISDN (E1/T1) circuits to centralized Carrier SIP and from legacy IP and non IP-PBX/Lync/Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams Direct Routing solutions.

Key Qualifications & Experience


  • Bachelor/Diploma/Nitec of Science in Information System/Computer Science or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Microsoft Teams
    • Active directory
    • Server infrastructure (Windows, VMWare etc.)
    • Office 365
    • Microsoft Azure
    • Ribbon
    • Cloud based call centre platforms
  • Knowledge of networking, DHCP, TCP/IP, DNS, subnetting, and firewalls
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Microsoft project delivery
  • Experience with large scale and complex projects
  • Experience with private, public and hybrid clouds
  • Solid knowledge of VoIP protocols such as SIP, H323, MGCP, RTP, Codecs knowledge and troubleshooting experience
  • Strong understanding of UK Carrier SIP networks

Desirable Experience


  • IPBX such as Cisco, Mitel or Avaya
  • Contact centre, CCaaS, Netcall, Cisco, Mitel, Avaya
  • Public Sector market
  • Pre-sales engagements
  • SD-WAN
  • Fortinet
