Boom Operator

Contract: Fixed Term (12 months)

Based in Liverpool

We are looking for an experienced and technically minded Boom Operator to join our sound team to capture the highest quality sound for Hollyoaks. Achieving the best sound is crucial to telling the story and portraying its authenticity; it engages our audience and is intrinsic to building mood of the episode.

We are looking for someone with exceptional technical knowledge, proven experience and an interest in working with microphones and sound recording equipment. As a Boom Operator on Hollyoaks, you will be responsible for operating the boom microphone effectively. You will capture the best quality sound whilst positioning the microphone so that is does not impede the actors, cast a shadow, or appear in the camera frame. You will need to have a knowledge of audio workflows and film set terminology, as well as an understanding of lighting techniques and camera lens sizes. This role requires physical stamina, the ability to learn dialogue from scripts and follow instructions accurately. Excellent communication skills and a patient and tactful approach to work are essential to succeed in this role as you will be working closely with Artistes and other crew members.
