Position Overview & Specifications

Lab Store London, on Newman Street in central London, is known for its experimental and unorthodox fashion collection, created by the most innovative avant-garde designers. Our philosophy is to gather together the most forward-thinking fashion designers. We are experimental and push the boundaries of creativity to form some most important artistic and cultural achievements in fashion. Since the foundation, we have created a culture and brand of our own and attracted a growing number of designers, collaborators and loyal followers especially from the Far East. As part of our expansion, we now have a new full time Designer (Fashion and Textile) position available in our creative, forward thinking and dynamic team in our central London office.

Acting as the inhouse designer for Lab Store London, working directly with the Creative Director & Product Manager, the role’s main responsibilities are:

  • Research and identify seasonal silhouettes, shapes, fabrics and finishings for avant-garde/pioneer fashion and lifestyle
  • Demonstrate, through designs, an understanding of the Lab Store London’s aesthetic language and codes
  • Present research and ideas cohesively in both 2D (sketching or photoshop) and 3D.
  • Collaborate with buyers’ and sales team, report design ideas and drafts to Creative Director
  • Participate in in-house fittings
  • Follow seasonal stories to develop new products within the brief and demonstrate an understanding of look and feel
  • Create detailed technical sketches, designs or patterns for textile and clothing using Adobe Illustrator of styles, ready for handover for factory or studio sampling
  • Brief and handover of relevant styles for sampling both in-house and with suppliers
  • Elaborate on seasonal concepts relevant to styles, propose suitable print or embroidery executions where appropriate, and work collaboratively with other categories when applicable.
  • Develop and create new best sellers.
  • Liaise with suppliers and order seasonal sampling fabrics, trims etc.
  • Develop and present ideas and toiles in 3D, execute timely to meet fitting deadlines and factory sampling deadlines.

Qualification, Experience, Skills required:

  • Bachelor /Master Degree in Textile Design or Fashion Design
  • Direct work experience in Fasion Design
  • Sensitivity and high awareness of Fashion industry
  • Direct working knowledge of fashion businesses at a global level in Asia, Europe and north America is highly desirable
  • Superb communication, organisational and time management skills
  • Creativity, Innovation, great sense of aesthetics
  • Fluent in speaking and reading in both English and Chinese mandarin
  • Working knowledge in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £25,000.00-£28,000.00 per year
