Position Overview & Specifications

We provide a full range of diagnostic and treatment services and have a national reputation for innovative developments in healthcare, particularly in 'patient-focused' care, day surgery and maternity services.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Department of Trauma and Orthopaedics for a 12-month Trust Grade SpR LAS position to work within our busy department. The successful applicant will join the team of 10 SpR’s, 8 SHO’s and 2 F1’s, working alongside our 14 consultants and multidisciplinary team. We are fortunate to have a fantastic trauma ward, which is run by two orthogeriatric consultants and 4 junior doctors.

We pride ourselves in delivering an inclusive service and all of our junior doctors, including Trust Grades, have access to the same training opportunities, support and funding. The postholder will be required to work flexibly within the team and take an active role in their professional development. This will involve proactive preparation for clinical duties, including clinics, trauma/ elective theatre lists and undertake 1:10 on call responsibilities.

Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a district general hospital based approximately 12 miles from central London. The hospital is situated in a beautiful and historic part of the country and lies very close to Richmond Park, Hampton Court Palace and Kempton Park. The hospital supports around 350,000 people in the surrounding area from the boroughs of Kingston, Richmond, Roehampton, Putney, Merton and East Elmbridge.

We have approximately 600 beds and directly employ around 2,700 staff, with another 300 staff employed by contractors but working on behalf of the Trust. We are located on a single site in Kingston upon Thames, but run a number of outpatient clinics in sites across our catchment area including Raynes Park Health Centre, Surbiton Centre for Health, Queen Mary's Roehampton and Teddington Memorial Hospital.

1. To contribute to the delivery of a first-class service, by providing daily care to patients and support to the staff on the Trauma and Orthopaedic unit, including Canbury and Cambridge wards. The post-holder is expected to sustain our high standards of care across elective and emergency pathways.

1. To participate in the out-of-hours Trauma Service, supporting colleagues in the ED

1. To contribute to the delivery of the clinical governance and risk management strategy for our services

1. To participate in teaching and educational and clinical supervision and teaching for members of the multi-professional, multi-disciplinary, multi-agency teams.

1. To provide specialist orthopaedics assessment, advice and support to other inpatient speciality wards, Acute Assessment Unit, General Surgery, and our Emergency Department.

1. To provide specialist Orthopaedic outpatient services.

1. To contribute to the development and delivery of innovative, collaborative, high quality care pathway and protocols.

1. To provide internal cover for colleagues in the Orthopaedics Department, as required.
