Female Personal Care Assistant - Day Shift - Private Household

Personal Care Assistant (PA) is required to support a young lady at home with Complex Care needs. The Location is Halesowen in the West Midlands. On a permanent contract to cover 24 up to 36 hours a week. Shifts are 12 hours, which include alternate weekends. Day shift patterns are 08:00 - 20:00. Flexibility is required to cover some holiday leave and sickness. Starting salary ranges from £13.75 - £16.75 per hour PLUS a travel allowance. We are looking for a PA to work as part of a team to look after a young lady, following a long stay in a Spinal Injury Hospital. She contracted a serious infection, which became progressive and led to her having a SCI lesion. She now requires breathing support from a ventilator and has a tracheostomy in situ, which requires ongoing management and daytime intervention. All training for this will be provided.

Despite her care needs, this young lady has a great sense of humour and likes to interact with her PA's on shift, she loves a variety of television programs and daily soaps. She likes going out in her powered wheelchair to the shops, cinema, events etc. She has high input on the Care Package provided and can help support and inform you of tasks that need to be carried out, she will communicate things she wants to do.

This young lady requires support with; Tracheostomy / Ventilation / Suctioning / Catheter Care / Nebulisers / Moving and Handling and Medication Administration via PEG. Moving and Handling is required to be conducted in accordance with risk assessments to reduce the risk of skin damage.

The PA will be part of a dedicated team of healthcare professionals and work under the guidance and supervision of Team Leads and supported by community nurses. You should be focused and aim to meet the support needs of this young lady’s individual care and rehabilitation program. We are seeking applicants who hold a valid UK driving licence thus enabling them to take the young lady out and about in her Wheelchair Access Vehicle. For personal reasons this lady would like female persons to apply, you should have a caring nature, friendly disposition, and you can be flexible and work well in a team environment following the demands of the job. You need to be trustworthy, reliable, and punctual.

Previous care experience is not essential, attendance to 4–6-hour shadow shifts for training purposes is necessary to begin with. This will enable successful candidates the opportunity to interact with the young lady and utilise her input.

Due to this position being for a Private Residence we are not looking for any candidates wanting to join us from outside the UK as we are not in a position to support Visa applications.

There will be a 12 week probation period and following that time, if you are happy to continue in the position, we will then also provide the following.
