Position Overview & Specifications

Whitgift is one of Britain’s leading independent day and boarding schools for boys aged between 10 and 18 years with approximately 1550 pupils and over a hundred boarding or flexi-boarding pupils. The School, which was founded in 1596 by Elizabeth I’s last Archbishop of Canterbury, John Whitgift, is one of the oldest in Croydon and enjoys facilities of outstanding quality, amongst the best available nationally. It is set in an attractive 48-acre parkland site in South Croydon with excellent road and rail links to London, Surrey and the south coast.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced and highly productive marketing and communication professional to fill a vacancy that has arisen due to an internal promotion. This post is available with an immediate start (pending satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks).

The ideal candidate will be a personable and highly skilled marketing and communications professional, able to work independently and within a team. Alongside broad experience in all aspects of the marketing mix, you will have excellent and current experience of digital/website /social media marketing to help us take advantage of changing consumer trends and to effectively action tactical delivery. You will also be a proficient internal and external communicator with an aptitude for copywriting for different audiences and proofing/editing items such as school communications, publications, prospectuses, parent communications and website content.

We are a busy team and so you will be comfortable with delivering medium term project work alongside managing every-day term-time activity and ad-hoc requests (e.g. photography for events, filming for short video reels, event promotion etc). Working proactively will be second nature to you and your attention to detail, organisational and project management skills will ensure that you effectively manage deadlines and prioritise your work.

The position provides an exciting opportunity for someone working at a similar level in a corporate/commercial field who is seeking a new challenge – there is so much to learn in the field of Independent Schools Marketing, and you will be well-supported to settle in.

You will report to the Director of Marketing and Communications, but also work closely with the other members of the team.
