Job Description

The Brewing Lab Technician works as a member of the QA team at Fourpure, collaborating closely with and as a vital conduit to the brewing team. As a member of the QA team, they cover all routine lab testing required to support the brewery operation, and to support the Lead Lab Technician functions. This is an ideal transitional opportunity for either a brewer looking to grow into a lab/quality role, or for a lab tech to grow into a brewing position.

The role

  • Collaborate with the lab and brew teams on a project to strengthen the brewing function within the lab, delivering an elevated level of quality control autonomy within the brewing team standard remit by 2024
  • Grow into joint ownership with brewing team of yeast health, propagation, storage, distribution and planning
  • Perform standardised laboratory tests on raw materials, water, the brewery environment, in process and finished beer
  • Assist in laboratory operations including stock levels, calibration, and maintenance of the equipment
  • Perform standardized micro analysis on water, wort, the brewery environment, in process and finished beer
  • Participate in complaint investigations ensuring feedback is timely and accurate and appropriate corrective actions are put in place
  • Contribute to site cost saving activities
  • Fully engage in our hygiene and safety culture and handle all chemicals safely
  • Tracking appropriate records and maintaining SOPs
  • Support internal stakeholders with technical input and problem-solving skills for complex issue resolution
  • Support the quality improvement program to reduce complaints
  • Support factory based QSHE audits and inspections to verify compliance against defined standards and codes of practice. Audit examples include – GMP, HACCP verification, CCP audits, M&S, SALSA compliance
  • Annual/sick leave cover and support to Lead Lab Technician and Sensory Lead standard work where appropriate

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in a technically related discipline i.e., Science, Food Science, Manufacturing desired
  • IBD General Certificate in Brewing desired
  • Brewing and packaging knowledge required

Skills:

  • Strong microbiological knowledge and experience of brewer’s yeast, wild yeasts and beer spoilage bacteria
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to design new tests, set targets and draw meaningful conclusions from the results
  • Strategic thinking & planning capability
  • Technical aptitude for identification of hazards and quantification of risks relating to food safety and quality
  • Analytical problem-solving skills for continuous improvement
  • Project management skills
  • Strong influencing and engaging skills with peers and leaders
  • Brewery lab experience preferred
  • Food manufacturing or FMCG QC experience required
