Position Overview & Specifications

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an innovative and enthusiastic Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to work in a specialist bariatric surgery service at Homerton Hospital.

The post holder will work as part of the specialist bariatric psychology team and the wider multidisciplinary team – which includes consultant surgeons, specialist medical physicians, nurses, dietitians, and physiotherapists – to support people in preparing for and, adjusting to, a surgical weight loss intervention. You will be part of the Trust’s thriving and well-established bariatric service.

The post holder will provide a range of specialist psychological assessments, formulation, and brief interventions with pre-operative and post-operative patients in primarily outpatient clinics as well as inpatient wards.

Regular advice, liaison and consultation on patients’ psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and other non-professional care providers will be required, which will include providing expert advice to local services where pre- and post-surgical psychological issues can be met by the existing local service from the patient’s borough.

The post holder will provide clinical supervision, line management, and support to Assistant Psychologists and Trainee Clinical Psychologists (when on placement) in the team.

The post holder will also assist the Principal Clinical Psychologist and Service Manager and take the lead on audit, quality improvement and service development projects related to the provision of the specialist bariatric psychology team and wider multidisciplinary service and patient pathways.
