Position Overview & Specifications

Job title: Hearing DogPartnership Team Leader
Location: Community based, covering the South of England & South Wales
Hours: Full time, 35 hours per week, permanent
Salary: £31,635.00 per annum

You will be a third team leader as part of a growing team, line managing up to eight staff members at this present time. You will cover the south of England, from the south west to the south east, and from south Wales across to the home counties. You need to live within this area to enable travel to team members and clients. Some travel to our headquarters in Buckinghamshire will also be necessary.

This role has four development levels, each providing a salary increase. Development comes through experience, training and performance. These will be reviewed as part of our ongoing appraisal process.

Purpose

“Hearing Dogs for Deaf People trains dogs that change deaf people’s lives through emotional and practical support – because nobody with hearing loss should feel alone.”

  • Line-manage a team of community-based staff
  • Empower the team to ensure our beneficiaries receive the support they need with their hearing loss and their hearing dog partnership
  • Empower the team to provide a calendar of community engagement opportunities for our beneficiaries and anyone affected by hearing loss
  • Ensure there is robust problem solving, decision making, and planning within the team

Headline tasks

  • Supervise and plan activity in the team, ensuring beneficiaries are supported, risks are well managed, and our time is used effectively
  • Support the team with dog behaviour cases, welfare cases, and areas of concern with our beneficiaries, and lead where needed to achieve the best outcomes
  • Continually develop your and your team’s knowledge and understanding on hearing loss, services available to help people with hearing loss, assistive listening technology, hearing awareness, dog training and dog welfare
  • Shadow staff visits, attend community events, and visit beneficiaries when needed
  • Review and sign off successor applications
  • Create and develop procedures, guidance, and plans supporting team activity
  • Manage escalations, complaints, and help resolve hearing dog access issues
  • Nurture the team culture, embracing change, and lead on messaging

Desired candidate

The successful candidate has advanced dog training and behaviour modification knowledge and experience. They are experienced coaching and training others. They can assess risk and have confidence in handling sensitive situations. They can manage a wide range of competing priorities. They are people focused and are a natural leader.

Important to note

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. This is in relation to the Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults. Applicants will therefore be required to disclose all convictions (spent and unspent), cautions, warnings and reprimands and any relevant non-conviction information. The successful candidate will be required to undertake a Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure Check under the terms of the Police Act 1997 (Part V).
