Position Overview & Specifications

Hackney is one of Britain’s most exciting and fastest-changing boroughs. We have changed the reputation, not just of the Council, but of Hackney itself.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to promote one of London’s most popular and exciting boroughs for filmmaking. The Council’s Film Office is a one stop shop for filmmakers looking to shoot their project on location in Hackney. We connect filmmakers with council services, raise licensing revenues for the borough and promote Hackney as a filming destination.

As Film Officer, you will work as part of a small team managing all film, television and photography shoots across Council owned sites. You will be a self starter with great attention to detail, experience at managing multiple projects at any given time and work well to deadlines. You will be a talented communicator and have experience working with a range of partners and stakeholders, often with competing priorities.

You will have a good understanding of film and television production, especially relating to location filming. Excellent customer service is essential and you will work closely with clients in the creative industry and represent the Council at meetings with partners and residents.

This role will require you to manage shoots on site and attend site visits at locations across the borough. Applicants should be available to work evenings and weekends.

If you would like to discuss the role further, please do not hesitate to contact Will McLaverty at will.mclaverty@hackney.gov.uk

The recruitment process is anonymous. Therefore, we do not accept supporting statements or CVs.

When applying, there will be a number of questions relating to the post on the application form. It is essential that you complete the application questions, responding to each using examples of your skills, knowledge and experience.

This application process replaces a supporting statement.

Closing date for applications: 11 June 2023

Interview date: 27-30 June 2023

We are also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud; a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included and involved. In order to achieve this, we look for people who are: Proud; Ambitious; Pioneering; Open; Proactive and Inclusive.

Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy and maternity, age and marital status. We also recognise that people can be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will also work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class. We also welcome those interested in flexible working. We particularly welcome applications from disabled people, as this group is currently under represented in our workforce.

The Council has a dedicated employment support service (Hackney Works), which offers Hackney residents guidance in relation to applying for jobs. If you are thinking about applying for a job, please contact the Hackney Works team to find out what support is available: hackneyworks@hackney.gov.uk
