Special Constable Event 29th June

Special Constables are volunteer Police Officers who wear the same uniform and have the same powers as full time Police Officers. They work alongside full time Police Officers, dealing with a variety of incidents, assisting on operations and interacting with our diverse communities.

Special Constables learn many new skills as well as making a worthwhile contribution to the local communities in Greater Manchester. All we ask is that Special Constables commit a minimum average of 16 hours per month.

At these events you will learn about the role, the recruitment process and the training programme. You will have the opportunity to speak to experts from our Recruitment Team, Training Department and serving Special Constables to ask any questions you may have.

This event is focused on people interested in joining the Special Constabulary. If you wish to apply for a full time Police Officer role then please visit the GMP website where you will find details of local recruitment events and information on how to apply.

Before booking a place at the event, please check that you are eligible to apply and meet all the criteria below:

• Can apply aged 17 but must be 18 on appointment

• Must be resident in the UK for 3 years prior to submitting an application;

• If you have been out of the country for more than 6 months in the last 3 years then you will have to provide sufficient information for consideration for us to carry out necessary security vetting checks;

• Must be a British citizen, member of EC or EEA, and resident in the UK free of restrictions with an indefinite leave to remain;

• No outstanding County Court Judgments – must be satisfied;

• If registered as bankrupt, you will only be considered after 3 years from discharge date;

• No visible tattoos on hands, face or neck;

• You will not be considered if you have any convictions for theft, dishonesty, violence or public order offences;

• Drink driving conviction – 10 year preclusion;

• Driving without insurance – 5 year preclusion;

• No cautions or juvenile convictions for recordable offences within the last 5 years;

• Security roles are a potential conflict of interest so you may not be eligible;
