GitLab features must ship successfully across four distinct deployment platforms—Self-Managed, Dedicated, Dedicated for Government, and GitLab.com. Today, developers routinely discover platform compatibility issues late in development, triggering costly rework, delays, and emergency escalations. The Platform Readiness team is building an internal developer tooling capability that embeds platform readiness intelligence directly into GitLab's software development lifecycle to solve this problem. As an Intermediate Backend Engineer on the newly established Platform Readiness functional team in Developer Experience, you'll contribute to the systems that enable features to ship successfully across all platforms by building and maintaining agentic workflow components and evolving the platform requirements knowledge base. This is a growth opportunity: you will learn the Platform Readiness team's agentic workflows, requirements schema, and integration surfaces from other engineers and team leadership. You'll work on concrete, high-impact problems while developing expertise in platform readiness automation and AI-driven systems. What you'll do Build and maintain agentic workflow components on the Duo Agent Platform: contribute to the Core Agentic Workflow (DAP flow) and the Requirements Agent; write tests, documentation, and evaluations for agentic-workflow behavior Contribute to the platform requirements knowledge base: add requirements, evolve the schema, and improve validation tooling; work with platform teams to translate their expertise into structured requirements Build integration surfaces that enable feature teams to engage the Platform Readiness team where they already work: issues, merge requests, design documents, and CI/CD pipelines Collaborate with platform teams (Infrastructure, Security, Data) to translate their expertise into platform readiness artifacts and domain skills Write clear and concise documentation and evaluations that validate agentic-workflow behavior and improve assessment accuracy What you'll bring Required Experience & Skills 2+ years of software engineering experience with backend focus Proficiency in TypeScript/Node,  Python, or Golang Comfort reading and contributing to schemas (YAML, JSON Schema) and structured content Experience with and operational exposure to Kubernetes and reasoning about failure modes Ability to work asynchronously and communicate clearly in written form Exposure to and experience with LLM APIs, prompts, or agentic frameworks (does not need to be incredibly extensive) Highly Valued Experience Ruby familiarity Experience with GitLab-style development workflows (issues, epics, merge requests, CI/CD) Open source contributions Interest in developer experience or platform engineering What Makes You Stand Out (Strong Plus) You have hands-on experience with any agentic workflow framework (DAP, LangGraph, etc.) You've contributed to a structured requirements or specification body and understand the challenges of evolving schemas You have observability instincts and care about measuring system behavior About the team The Platform Readiness team is part of GitLab Infrastructure and Developer Experience, building an internal developer tooling capability for platform readiness across GitLab's four deployment targets: Self-Managed, Dedicated, Dedicated for Government, and GitLab.com. We partner with platform teams, feature teams, and product management to ensure every feature is evaluated against platform readiness requirements before it ships. This is a growth opportunity where you'll learn agentic workflows, requirements schema work, and integration surface development from other engineers and team leadership. You'll contribute to high-impact work that directly improves GitLab's ability to ship features faster and more reliably across all platforms.
