SCIENTIST – Genetic Toxicology/Molecular Biology

As part of Gentronix’s success and continued expansion, we are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Scientist to join our Team of scientists working on Big Blue® genetic toxicology studies, providing in vitro regulatory Transgenic Rodent Mutation assay services.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join one of our newest teams, building hands-on laboratory experience with the chance to develop new technical skills within an innovative and fast-growing Contract Research Organisation (CRO).

Your role

Working closely with your colleagues, you’ll perform and deliver high quality Big Blue® genetic toxicology studies on behalf of our clients. Working in our new laboratory, you’ll be involved across all activities related to the assay conduct and data reporting, including: tissue processing, DNA extraction, bacteriophage packaging, bacterial strain culture, scoring of plates, data processing, study file assembly and performing quality control checks.

Specifically, you will:

• Undertake high-quality preclinical toxicology studies.
• Work closely with the Team Leader and other colleagues to ensure efficient and timely performance of Big Blue® assay laboratory work, ensuring study deadlines are met.
• Work in a regulatory environment and learn the principles of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) ensuring you adhere to these principles across all aspects of your work.
• Have the opportunityto learn and develop new skills in molecular and micro-biology with the potential to be involved with some of the in vivo components of running the assay.

About you

To join us as a Scientist you will need:

• A life sciences degree and ideally a minimum of 2 years’ experience of working in a life sciences laboratory environment in a relevant role
• Good practical experience of molecular biology techniques, including DNA isolation from tissues and/or microbiology experience including bacterial cell culture, plating and scoring of plaques or colonies.
• To demonstrate an understanding of the principles of toxicology, and an enthusiasm for the application of these in both a screening and regulatory setting.
• To be a strong team player with good communication skills
• Excellent attention to detail and experience of working in compliance with standard operating procedures.

Additionally, we’d be particularly interested to hear from you if you have knowledge and practical experience of any of the following:

• Working in a CRO environment
• The principles of GLP

Most of all, you will have a passion for the application of life sciences, be a diligent scientist, and have clear ambition to learn, develop and join a highly ambitious, hard working and fast paced team.

This role will require occasional weekend working (approximately once per month) within a 37.5 hour total working week.

You may have previously held the title of Laboratory Scientist, Senior Lab Technician, Scientist, Study Scientist or Cell Culture Scientist.
