Legal Counsel


Contract type:
Permanent
Working hours: We’re open to flexible working hours so whether you’re looking for full time, part time, job sharing or looking for flexible start/finish times, just let us know on your application
Location: Whilst your base office will be in Gloucester, we’ll support you to work flexibly from home (providing a suite of IT equipment), whilst coming together on site to offer face to face support and collaboration twice a week on a Monday and Tuesday.
Closing date: Friday 24th February
Salary: Negotiable depending on experience, plus excellent benefits


Are you looking for a rewarding legal career where you can really make a difference? Well, we’re looking for a talented and self-starting Legal Counsel to come and join our friendly and collaborative Generation Legal team!


The opportunity…


EDF is the industry leader in low carbon generation and has a strong vision to help Britain achieve Net Zero. The Generation business is the part of the business that manages EDF’s generation assets being: eight nuclear power stations (five operational and three decommissioning); 2 coal power stations (one ready to operate and one decommissioning); and a gas storage facility. The Generation Legal Team supports the whole lifecycle of these assets (during operations, decommissioning and transfer) as well as commercial development activities, which build opportunities for the future from our land, skilled workforce, and collaboration with others across the industry.


We have an exciting opportunity to be part of this team and become involved in wide range of work supporting the entire portfolio of the Generation business. Your work would be instrumental to the success of the business with responsibilities, which could include:


  • Projects: leading corporate projects supporting decommissioning, transfer and strategic development opportunities.
  • Property: negotiating and supporting the management of a range of property related transactions relevant to the business.
  • Construction: negotiating and supporting the management of contracts required for both construction of new facilities at our existing plant and the deconstruction of facilities on decommissioning stations, including management of any disputes.
  • Commercial: supporting the business in its commercial contract negotiations to realise value and synergies across our supply chain.
  • Organisational Governance: supporting the operation of the various group companies and providing company secretarial assistance to the Boards.
  • Compliance: supporting the business in understanding regulatory compliance obligations and demonstrating best practice in all aspects including GDPR, export controls, health & safety and environment, nuclear licensing.


What we’re looking for…


If you are looking to develop your legal skills in a collaborative and engaging environment, where you can involve yourself in a broad spectrum of work, we would love to hear from you. Skills we particularly value include a proactive approach, strong commercial acumen, and an interest in the energy sector. Ideally, you’ll understand commercial and legal risk and the ability to identify risk mitigations, working with business colleagues to determine suitable options, balancing risk and reward. You’ll have great attention to detail, providing pragmatic legal advice in the context of an commercial and operational business undergoing change.


You’ll be comfortable in collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders and experienced in supporting on various legal matters simultaneously with responsive, succinct, and pragmatic day-to-day advice.


Whether you are newly qualified or have post qualification experience, if you are a solicitor admitted in England and Wales with well-rounded legal knowledge, experience, and an interest in furthering the UK’s net zero ambitions, then we’d love to hear from you!
