The job itself
The Council is seeking to recruit to a small team of existing Local Nature Reserve officers in the Countryside Access Team. Based in Driffield and Goole the team looks after nature reserves, country parks, picnic sites and delivers an events programme.
The post holder will be responsible for enhancing the management of nature reserves, liaising with customers, improving the enjoyment of nature reserves, and contributing to events and work with volunteers and community groups. We would particularly welcome applications from people with practical experience and an interest in wildlife and access to the countryside. In addition, the postholder will be able to further develop some of our project work on biodiversity, community engagement and customer service excellence. In winter the post will send time assisting other Officers with habitat management.
The successful applicant will be specifically assigned to providing an on site presence for the range of nature reserves and ideally will need to have some customer facing experience in an outdoor environment, experience of basic practical work and volunteering. An important part of the role will be to reduce conflict between users on site and to improve the behaviour of visitors. You will have good communication, organisational and IT skills as well as the ability to work on your own initiative, and lone working on nature reserves.
The post involves working on a weekend and evening basis, particularly during the summer, and when sites are busy with a focus on the Humber Bridge Country Park. Time off in lieu will be given. A 4x4 vehicle is provided for the postholder.
