Position Overview & Specifications

Band 6 Senior IAPT Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner

We are looking to recruit a Senior Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) to join a busy and high performing team. This is an opportunity for a PWP with substantial post qualification experience, who is committed to this model to develop their career in the low intensity service. This role involves case management supervision of PWPs and Trainees to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery is maintained.

The post holder will have a sufficient post qualification to demonstrate a high level of skill and expertise as well as offer high volume evidence-based practice in the delivering low intensity interventions within an IAPT service. You will also have completed the IAPT Supervisor Training course.

The post holder will assist the PWP Team Lead and Senior PWP Lead in the organisation and co-ordination of Low Intensity interventions for people with common mental health problems. The post holder will also be expected to keep up to date with new innovations and developments in PWP practice.

The vacancy is offered as a permanent post, with the expectation that all clinical staff work one late evening per week (12pm until 8pm). We currently offer blended working, working from both home and from the office. We will continue to review this approach in line with future service needs.

To offer rapid screening and risk assessment, informed by knowledge of the spectrum of common mental health problems and step 2 intervention suitability.

Conduct risk assessments, prepare risk management plans and initiate appropriate action where indicated (including requests for mental health act assessment, referrals to relevant secondary care services, social services or safe guarding team).

Provide Step 2 interventions based on Guided Self Help including well-being classes or workshops, booklets, computerised CBT to patients registered with GP practices/health centres and or resident in Newham, drawing from CBT theories and techniques.

Provide a service that is comprehensive and accessible to a broad range of patients who have commonplace mental health problems and who are over 16 years of age.

Support GPs and other primary care workers in making appropriate referrals and in carrying out the mental health aspects of their own roles.

Make appropriate referrals to other service providers in the statutory and voluntary sectors and redirect patients to other sources of appropriate support within the local community as required.

Provide a service that is flexible as far as possible in terms of clinic hours, enabling, where possible, at least one clinic to be run outside normal working hours.

Offer training to Primary Care staff in CBT based interventions.
