Position Overview & Specifications
The successful applicant will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience of relevant administrative roles, IT systems and a wider understanding of the broader issues at play within busy multi-disciplinary diagnostic service is preferred.
As a senior administrator, the potential to continually develop leadership skills and experience of quality management processes is expected and supported. The successful applicant will preferably have experience supervising, training and managing staff.
An understanding of UKAS accreditation standards or expectations would be welcomed. We currently hold UKAS Accreditation ISO: 15189, and this post supports the quality lead as well as the chief and head BMS in all matters pertaining to histology and non-gynae cytology report production.

Cellular pathology as a whole, including mortuary staff, incorporates a team of 84 staff. From consultant pathologists, to assistant healthcare scientists. From consultant biomedical scientists reporting alongside the consultants, to admin support and clerical staff. The diversity of staff within the discipline is all incorporated into the management of the quality of service offered, with the aim of putting the patient first.
Specific role requirement is to assist in the organisation and prioritisation of the cellular pathology team’s workload. They will support and work with the team in order to provide a comprehensive medical secretarial and/or secretarial service, ensuring the delivery of a coordinated and consistent operational management service.
The post holder will be required to support and sustain the disciplines practice reviewing and implementing agreed administrative protocols, processes and procedures in line with service needs.
The post holder will be required to supervise and manage a secretarial and clerical team. They may be required to assist in the recruitment, administration and selection of secretarial and clerical staff.
The post holder must be able to communicate sensitively and effectively with a wide range of people including patients, medical staff and colleagues. They will support and administer processes to sustain the disciplines practice through administrative protocols, processes and procedures in line with service needs.
